Feature of the Month

In June,

Linda D. Addison—poet and writer of horror, science fiction, and fantasy—recently provided the BSADA with an interview of her experience at The Horror Writers Association’s (HWA) first ever StokerCon™ convention at Las Vegas, Nevada. Ms. Addison is the author of four collections, including How to Recognize a Demon Has Become Your Friend. In 2001, she became the first African-American author to win the HWA’s Bram Stoker Award® for her poetry collection Consumed, Reduced to Beautiful Grey Ashes. Ms. Addison is also a founding member of the writer’s group Circles in the Hair (CITH) and a member of SFWA and SFPA.

As part of her interview with BSADA, Linda Addison provides us with an account of her experience at StokerCon™ 2016, especially participating in Horror University: the HWA’s way of providing more educational experiences for its members. As part of Horror University, she facilitated a workshop called Poetic Forms: The Scary World of Structured Poetry. Additionally, Ms. Addison provides her unique insights into the idea of speculative arts and how one can venture into speculative forms.
